Turkey woke up to the news of the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Approximately 106 people were issued detention orders for crimes such as organized crime, bribery, and interference in tenders as part of the investigations launched against IMM Media Inc. regarding "Corruption" and "Urban Reconciliation." IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık, İmamoğlu's advisor Murat Ongun, Tuncay Yılmaz, Fatih Keleş, and Ertan Yıldız were detained. Additionally, the Istanbul Governorship announced that all kinds of meetings, demonstrations, and press statements would be banned for four days between March 19-23. Politicians reacted strongly to İmamoğlu's detention.
SPECIAL: A COUP ATTEMPT AGAINST OUR NEXT PRESIDENT
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated, "Using power to make decisions on behalf of the people, to override the will of the people, or to obstruct it is a coup. Right now, there is a power in place to prevent the people from determining the next president. We are facing a coup attempt against our next president. Our nation loves its state, but if the state stands against the nation, the people will not allow it. The real power is the nation, and in the end, the nation will win. It will be so again. We will not surrender. In the end, what the nation says will prevail, and Turkey will win," he said.
BULUT: WE WILL RESIST WITH EACH OF OUR MEMBERS
CHP Deputy Chairman Burhanettin Bulut said, "There is no law; they are designing politics through the judiciary in the corridors of the courthouse. Our Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and our colleagues, elected by millions of citizens, are being detained. These detentions are a coup against the will of the people, democracy, and the rule of law. We will not surrender to the lawlessness of the Palace; we will resist with each of our members," he stated.
YAVAŞ: OUR MAYOR EKREM IS NOT ALONE
Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş said, "Everyone who defends the rule of law, democracy, and the will of the people in this country should know that these attempts against an elected mayor are absolutely unacceptable. Yesterday diploma cancellation, today police gathering in front of our Mayor Ekrem's house early in the morning and detention operations against his team… This picture does not suit a state of law. Even if the reason for detention is unclear; what does it indicate to rush to detain a mayor who previously went to the courthouse to give a statement? If you are truly seeking justice, you must first adhere to the fundamental principles of law. It should be known that no intervention against the will of the people goes unanswered. The greatest damage from these unlawful methods, pressures, and threats will be to our democracy. But we will not remain silent! No one should forget: Our Mayor Ekrem is not alone," he expressed.
BAKIRHAN: WE MUST TURN BACK FROM THIS WRONG PATH IMMEDIATELY
DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan stated, "The operation against Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu and many others, including district mayors, journalists, and politicians, is an open attack on democracy and the will of the people. We reject this lawlessness against the will of the people and condemn it in the strongest terms. This wrong path must be turned back immediately, and respect must be shown for the will of the people. As the DEM Party, we will continue to stand against all forms of pressure on democratic politics. We declare that we stand with the people of Istanbul and all segments fighting for democracy in Turkey, and we demand the immediate release of Ekrem İmamoğlu and everyone who has been detained," he said.
HATİMOĞULLARI: THE PATH TAKEN IS NOT A PATH
DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları stated, "The detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and dozens of others, including district mayors and journalists, through early morning raids on their homes is unacceptable! We reject it in the strongest terms! This operation is a political operation that does not recognize the boundaries of law.
The ballot box, votes, and positions are leading the social tension and polarization in Turkey to an irreparable place. The detention of the mayor of the largest city in the country through a morning raid with political motives is a shame that will not be forgotten for hundreds of years. This operation, which shatters faith in justice, is the design of politics through the judiciary.
What Turkey needs is not to detain mayors with police raids at the crack of dawn; it is more democracy and more law. We warn everyone. As faith in justice diminishes, the hope for a fair and equal life will suffer great harm. The path taken is not a path. It is harmful. The immediate release of Mr. İmamoğlu and those detained, and the judicial processes being freed from being a source of revenge and tension is for the good of 85 million," she stated.
SARIGÜL: DISTANCE FROM DEMOCRACY HAS BECOME A CONTINUOUS STATE
CHP member Mustafa Sarıgül said, "The distance from democracy and injustice has become a continuous state. Who has been able to perpetuate injustice that you will? It is impossible to defeat the people and their rights," he stated.
DİLEK İMAMOĞLU: NO ONE WILL REMAIN SILENT
Dilek İmamoğlu, the wife of IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, said, "They came after sahur. My 13-year-old daughter said she did not want to leave school and said goodbye to her father. They started the operation with 3-5 social media accounts for 20 days. No one will remain silent in the face of such injustice," she said.
ENGİNYURT: THE COUNTRY HAS TURNED INTO A PRISON
CHP member Cemal Enginyurt stated, "The country has turned into a prison. Ekrem İmamoğlu and hundreds of people have been detained. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, close all democratic institutions, including the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Arrest all opposition. Establish a unique Turkey for yourself. Even if the prisons are ours and the palaces are yours, we will RESIST," he stated.
BAŞ: THIS IS A COUP
TIP Chairman Erkan Baş stated, "They continue their attempts to break the will of the people by using the power they have seized. This is a coup. No matter what happens, we will not surrender this beautiful country to the mercy of the coup plotters. We call on all our people and all political parties, trade unions, professional chambers, and democratic mass organizations to stand together against the coup. We will not surrender, and this darkness will end," he said.
YÜCEL: THE WAY TO MANIFEST THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE IS BEING CUT OFF
CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel stated, "They have become so blinded that they call Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu a leader of a criminal organization. The country has lost its balance… What is happening is a coup attempt against the next president of the country. The way to manifest the will of the people is being cut off. A coup has been made against the law and democracy. Trying to obstruct Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu with familiar scenarios and familiar slanders is a sign of weakness."

"Even if they write a book on injustice and lawlessness, what the people say will prevail. Sovereignty unconditionally belongs to the nation!" he said.
POLAT: I WAS DETAINED AFTER A SEARCH AT MY HOME
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat stated, "To my friends, companions, and brothers who are concerned about me, I was detained after a search was conducted at my home this morning. However, no power can hinder our love for Istanbul, our people, and our homeland. Together with Ekrem İmamoğlu, we have worked to protect all the values of Istanbul, and we will continue to do so. I embrace everyone with love," he expressed.
