Thousands of people took to the streets with red flags and held a demonstration in Athens, the capital of Greece. In the actions attended by communist and left-wing groups, military cooperation with the US and regional war policies were protested. As political mobilization increases in Europe, who organized the demonstrations and how they were financed has also become a matter of debate.
Images transmitted from Athens showed crowds carrying red flags associated with communist movements marching.
While the number of young people participating in the demonstration was reported to be in the thousands, verified details about which organizations organized the march and the exact size of participation have not yet been clarified.
WHICH ORGANIZATIONS ARE BEHIND THE DEMONSTRATIONS?
It was determined that the demonstration held in Athens, which was verified to have been attended by more than 2,000 people, was carried out against US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's visit to Greece. The PAME trade union movement linked to the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), student organizations, and various left-wing groups took part in organizing the action.
Protesters opposed military cooperation between Greece and the US and the country's involvement in regional wars.
PROTESTS ARE SPREADING IN EUROPE
The demonstrations in Athens took place at a time when actions organized by students, trade unions, and various political movements were increasing in different European countries.
On October 21 in Greece, approximately 10,000 students, teachers, and university students also marched demanding more resources for public education and improved living conditions. This action was organized around demands different from the previous demonstration in which communist organizations participated.
NO EVIDENCE FOR FUNDING CLAIMS
Who finances the protests in Europe and whether they are directed for political purposes has also been a matter of debate. However, there is no verified information showing that the demonstrations in Athens were managed by secret financiers or were part of a common plan to weaken European governments.
While the demonstrations have known organizers and announced demands, there is not enough evidence to conclude that all protests in different countries are directed from a single center.
