The President of the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK), Palandöken, stated that the use of foreign signs in Turkey is increasing, saying, "Public inspections should be increased by strictly adhering to the rules in the sign regulation." The President of the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK), Bendevi Palandöken, made statements regarding foreign signs in Turkey. Palandöken noted that the number of foreign signs is increasing and emphasized that actions should be taken in accordance with the sign regulation.

"FOREIGN SIGNS ARE HARMING OUR NATIONAL IDENTITY"

Palandöken emphasized that Turkish is a rich and deep-rooted language, stating, "The signs in Turkish are decreasing day by day. Colorful signs of varying sizes, frequently containing foreign words, cause visual pollution on the streets and harm the culture of the city. Moreover, in places where those confusing signs are located, it is difficult for our own citizens to know what is being sold. In recent years, especially with the increasing migration to Turkey's eastern and southeastern regions, the use of foreign signs has increased excessively. This directly harms our national identity. What needs to be done is to have a sign unity and to limit the use of foreign signs. Public inspections should be increased by strictly adhering to the rules in the sign regulation. Additionally, if foreign languages are required in areas with high tourist traffic, they should be used alongside their Turkish counterparts. Because it is necessary to know who that establishment is and what it sells," he stated.

"SIGNS SHOULD BE PREPARED ACCORDING TO CERTAIN RULES"

Palandöken highlighted that signs play a critical role in creating a professional and respectable image beyond just being a promotional tool for businesses, stating, "One feature of signs is that they serve as a means to highlight corporate identity. The signs of businesses are the first elements that attract customers' attention. Therefore, the colors, texts, and visual elements used in sign designs are extremely important. Preparing signs according to certain standards creates a sense of trust and strengthens the corporate identity of the business in the long run. The standards to be applied to signs also increase the recognizability of the business and ensure that its location is easily noticed. This way, businesses gain a more organized and professional appearance, while the aesthetics of the streets are preserved, and cities acquire a more orderly look. Therefore, controlling foreign and visually disruptive signs is one of the important steps to take in preserving our language and culture," he said.
