Response from Erdogan to Guterres: The structure of the UN Security Council needs to be fundamentally changed.

14.08.2024 21:10

President Erdogan responded to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' remarks on Africa. President Erdogan stated that the structure of the UN Security Council, which is far from fulfilling its duty to ensure global peace and security, needs to be fundamentally changed.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan supported United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' statement, "We cannot accept the lack of a permanent member representing the African continent with a population of more than one billion." Erdogan said, "The structure of the UN Security Council needs to be fundamentally changed."

President Erdogan used the following expressions in his social media post:

"Dear Secretary-General, it is highly valuable for you to sincerely and loudly express your views on the need for a reform of the United Nations Security Council that is compatible and fair with today's conditions, in order for the world to have a fair system again. Africa and all our African brothers should definitely be given the opportunity to contribute to this fair system.

Erdoğan's response to Guterres: The structure of the UN Security Council needs to be fundamentally changed

The structure of the UN Security Council needs to be fundamentally changed before wars engulf us more, before more people and societies suffer, before more innocent blood is shed; this is what humanity expects from us.

"WE WILL CONTINUE TO SAY 'THE WORLD IS BIGGER THAN 5'"

As a response to these expectations, we will continue to say 'The world is bigger than 5' and act with the understanding that 'A fairer world is possible'. As Turkey, we will continue to stand by all our friends who sincerely strive for the formation of a fair international system and a UN Security Council that is compatible with today's conditions."
