In Trabzon's Karşıyaka Neighborhood, a retaining wall of a housing complex collapsed with a loud noise in the morning hours. A miracle occurred as giant rock pieces and soil flooded into a 5-story building. The family, who took their children out of bed during the collapse, escaped certain death by just a 10-second difference. After the horrific accident where rooms filled with rocks, the first two floors of the apartment were evacuated by AFAD teams, while the moments of terror were captured second by second on security cameras.

In a site located in Trabzon's Karşıyaka neighborhood, a life-threatening scene unfolded in the morning hours. The site's massive retaining wall collapsed with a loud noise; rooms on the ground floor of the 5-story building filled with huge rocks and piles of earth within seconds. The collapse was captured by the site's security cameras, and it was revealed that there were only 10 seconds between a family taking their child from bed and the rocks filling the room, narrowly avoiding a disaster.

"WE THOUGHT IT WAS THUNDER; WE SAVED OUR CHILD WITH 10 SECONDS TO SPARE"

The incident woke residents with a loud noise. Rock fragments and soil from the retaining wall flowed like an avalanche into the back of the building. Rocks broke through windows of homes on the 1st and 2nd floors and entered the rooms.

Homeowner Sercan Turan, describing the terrifying moments, stated that a disaster was prevented by seconds, saying:

"At first, we thought it was thunder and didn't understand. Then, when our dog got restless, my wife got up. As she was about to go to our child's room, the rocks from the retaining wall completely filled the house. We managed to save our child by taking him from his bed with a 10-second difference. Afterward, the rocks completely entered the room. We will file a complaint."

Another resident, Beratcan Atalay, whose home was damaged, recounted their shock: "We thought lightning struck. When we went to the window and saw the wall, we rushed to help our neighbors and evacuated the family."

"WE FILED APPLICATIONS BUT GOT NO RESULTS"

After the accident, numerous AFAD, police, and municipal police teams were dispatched to the scene. The area, where part of the road was also destroyed due to the collapse, was filmed with a drone.

Site manager Özgür Kaya highlighted the negligence, stating that they had previously issued warnings:

"We foresaw this situation. We had made applications to the necessary authorities, but we received no results, and unfortunately, this happened. Our biggest consolation is that there were no casualties."

FIRST TWO FLOORS EVACUATED AS A PRECAUTION

After inspections, it was determined that a total of 5 rooms in two apartments of the 5-story building became completely unusable. In line with the report prepared by AFAD teams, apartments on the 1st and 2nd floors in both blocks of the site were evacuated as a precaution. The evacuated residents moved in with their relatives, while the investigation into the incident continues.
