Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara stated that US President Donald Trump's remarks about Syria intervening in Lebanon were misunderstood, saying, "We do not want to return to the understanding of Syria's past military intervention in Lebanon." Additionally, al-Shara noted that it is natural to seek support from other countries in resolving the problems facing Syria, and mentioned that they have benefited from four leaders, including President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shara stated in an interview with Dubai-based Al-Mashhad television that US President Donald Trump's remarks about Syria intervening in Lebanon were misinterpreted by the public.

"WE DO NOT WANT TO RETURN TO THE OLD UNDERSTANDING OF MILITARY INTERVENTION"

Al-Shara noted that the US President expressed his discomfort with the war in Lebanon and indicated that Syria could play a positive role in coordination with Lebanon. He said Syria is ready to take an active and constructive role in resolving the crisis in Lebanon within the framework of its new foreign policy approach.

Explaining that the fall of the regime created new opportunities in the region, Al-Shara noted that some Lebanese parties are still acting under the influence of the past and thinking with the mentality of the former era.

Al-Shara stated that they discussed the situation in Lebanon several times during their meetings with US President Donald Trump and presented a vision different from current approaches.

Al-Shara said, "The problem in Lebanon cannot be solved solely by bombardments, destruction, and displacement. In our meetings with Trump, we emphasized that the war must stop. Solving the problem is possible not only through military methods but through economic, political, and social steps."

Al-Shara conveyed that the US President expressed that Syria could play a positive role in coordination with Lebanon.

Emphasizing that Syria's role in Lebanon is not to create new polarizations but to seek solutions, Al-Shara stated, "We do not want to return to the understanding of military intervention that Syria carried out in Lebanon in the past."

Expressing that it is natural to seek support from other countries in solving the problems facing Syria, Al-Shara said they benefit from the support of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and European leaders.

Noting that Lebanon needs a clear strategic vision rather than tactical moves, Al-Shara stated that he did not want to directly blame Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, but that there is a need for unconventional thinking in the country.

Stating that Syria can contribute to a secure resolution process in Lebanon, Al-Shara emphasized that this does not mean a return to the former guardianship era, but rather aims to strengthen the Lebanese state and its institutions.

WOULD HE SIT AT THE SAME TABLE WITH HEZBOLLAH?

Responding to the question, "Would you agree to sit at the same table with Hezbollah?" Al-Shara said, "If this step serves the interests of Lebanon and also secures Syria's interests, why not? We have deep problems with Hezbollah. However, while trying to solve this problem, we do not want Lebanon to perish at a cost. We want to solve the problem, but we also want Lebanon to continue living."

Addressing the Lebanese public, Al-Shara added, "If we wanted to enter into a conflict or war, we have the courage to say so openly. But our intention is only to wish well for our brothers in Lebanon. We have no wish other than a peaceful and happy life for them."
