The Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, spoke about the social housing projects implemented in 81 provinces. Minister Kurum stated, "We are addressing the housing/rent problem that is causing difficulties for our citizens. We are working with the General Directorate of National Real Estate to reduce land costs and taking revolutionary steps to lower housing prices."
The Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, stated in his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony for social housing in Gaziantep Güneyşehir that 312,000 social housing units will be rapidly constructed across 81 provinces in Turkey, expressing that these projects provide solutions to the housing and rental issues. Minister Kurum also mentioned the efforts initiated after the earthquake, stating that they have established hundreds of thousands of new homes in the earthquake-affected areas and that no obstacle has been able to stop these efforts.
Minister Kurum announced that, with the ongoing construction work that has continued day and night since the first days of the earthquake, 251,000 housing units, village houses, and workplaces will be completed by the end of the year.
"WE ARE ADDRESSING THE RENTAL ISSUE"
Stating that they have provided new homes to 5 million low-income citizens with the 1 million 481 thousand social housing units built so far, Minister Kurum said, "We are rapidly constructing 312 thousand social housing units in 81 provinces. With these efforts, we are not only providing homes for you but also addressing the housing/rental problem that has troubled our citizens. We are working with the General Directorate of National Real Estate to reduce land costs and taking revolutionary steps to lower housing prices." he said.
Minister Kurum stated that with the new housing campaign initiated with Emlak Konut, middle-income citizens are being made homeowners, and that the social housing campaign also provides housing opportunities for low-income citizens. He said, "The 1,427 independent units we will produce with our Gazi Housing Project in Güneyşehir is also a result of this effort. God willing, this project will be completed within 12 months." he said.
CRITICIZED THE OPPOSITION
Finally, Minister Kurum reacted strongly to the opposition's criticisms of the work in the earthquake-affected areas, saying, "Have you ever seen construction mud on their shoes? Have you seen them going to the construction site and caring about the people's troubles there? Have you seen a single work or service of theirs in this earthquake zone? If you ask them now, aren't they the most social democrats, the most laborers? But believe me, they have no respect for hard work or labor whatsoever." he said.
