RTÜK called on broadcasters ahead of the NATO Summit to be held in Ankara on July 7-8. The board requested that news and discussion programs be based on verified information, consider social sensitivities, and stay away from disinformation, while stating that all broadcasts during the summit will be meticulously monitored by experts.
The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) made a statement to broadcasting organizations before the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit to be held in Ankara on July 7-8. RTÜK called for a broadcasting approach based on confirmed information, respecting social sensitivities, and free from disinformation in news and discussion programs.
RTÜK, through a statement on its social media account, made assessments regarding the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit scheduled for July 7-8 in Ankara.
The statement emphasized that the summit is an important organization that will once again demonstrate Turkey's key role within NATO, its diplomatic effectiveness, and regional deterrence on the international stage.
"WE EXPECT BROADCASTS BASED ON CONFIRMED INFORMATION"
RTÜK drew attention to the importance of broadcasting organizations considering the public interest and national security perspective during this period when global security and diplomacy topics come to the forefront.
The statement included the following expressions: "Our fundamental expectation is that broadcasts are conducted with an understanding based on confirmed information, measured, respecting social sensitivities, and free from disinformation."
"BROADCASTS ARE CLOSELY MONITORED"
RTÜK stated that they prioritize the balance between freedom of expression and broadcasting responsibility, and reported that all broadcast flows during the summit are meticulously monitored by Monitoring and Evaluation Experts.
At the end of the statement, it was expressed that they believe broadcasting organizations will act within the framework of professional ethics in a manner befitting Turkey's international position, and success was wished to media members in their tasks.
