Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Anna Evstigneeva, evaluated the developments in the Middle East, stating that the causes of the loss of life in the region are the military activities of the United States and Israel. Evstigneeva criticized the challenges faced by Lebanon and Israel's attacks in the region.
Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Anna Evstigneeva stated that the developments that have "plunged the Middle East into deep chaos" and caused loss of life in the region are due to the military activities of the United States and Israel.
Evstigneeva presented Russia's views on the recent developments in the region during the session titled "Situation in the Middle East" held at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
"THE THING THAT PLUNGES THE MIDDLE EAST INTO CHAOS IS THE US AND ISRAEL"
Pointing out that Western countries may try to misrepresent the developments in the Middle East, Evstigneeva said, "What is plunging the region into an increasingly deeper chaos, leading to an increasing number of casualties and irreversible damage to civilian infrastructure, are the military escapades of the US and Israel."
Evstigneeva indicated that the serious consequences of this situation are already being felt in many Middle Eastern countries, stating, "Unfortunately, Lebanon is not an exception. It has once again been subjected to large-scale attacks from Israel."
"ISRAEL HAS VIOLATED IT REPEATEDLY"
The Russian diplomat also mentioned that Israel has repeatedly violated the 2024 agreements reached with the mediation of the US and France regarding pulling its troops south of the blue line and stopping arbitrary attacks on Lebanon.
Estimating that hundreds of thousands of people in Lebanon have been forced to leave their homes and seek shelter, Evstigneeva emphasized that given the "serious socioeconomic situation" in the country, this will inevitably lead to problems in meeting basic needs, including access to food.
Evstigneeva reacted to the killing of four employees of the Iranian Embassy in Beirut on March 8, stating, "Yesterday, we once again emphasized that the discriminatory attacks on civilian targets and diplomatic missions in Lebanon, such as the attack on the Russian Consulate in Isfahan, are unacceptable. This is unacceptable."
THE US ACCUSED HEZBOLLAH OF DEFENDING IRAN'S INTERESTS
The US Permanent Representative to the UN, Michael Waltz, stated that his country "condemns" the attacks initiated by Hezbollah, which it claims has been a "long-standing proxy" of the Iranian regime, against Israel.
Waltz assessed, "Hezbollah has once again made it clear that it does not represent or defend the Lebanese people. It defends the interests of the Iranian regime."
Waltz, stating, "We recognize Israel's legitimate security needs and its right to defend itself against the Iranian regime and Hezbollah," said that Hezbollah is an obstacle to Lebanon becoming a peaceful, stable, and functioning state.
US Ambassador Waltz also expressed that they "welcomed" the Lebanese Cabinet's decision on March 2 to ban Hezbollah's military and security activities.
Waltz stated, "Now is the time for the Lebanese government to regain control over the entirety of its country," noting that the US "absolutely supports" this effort.
