The United Arab Emirates announced that an oil tanker passing through the Strait of Hormuz was attacked by two drones sent from Iran. The horrifying moments when the second drone struck the ship were recorded second by second by the crew of another vessel in the region.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced that a tanker belonging to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) was targeted by two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) sent from Iran during its passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
ATTACK MOMENT ON CAMERA
The moment the second UAV hit the tanker was captured on the cell phone camera of another tanker's crew in the area. In the footage, the engine sounds of the UAVs descending towards the giant tanker sailing in the region can be clearly heard. The subsequent violent explosion and the shock wave that shook the ship reveal the horror of the incident.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In a written statement by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated that the ADNOC tanker was hit by two UAVs of Iranian origin during its passage. The statement strongly condemned the attack.
While it was stated that there were no casualties or injuries in the attack, it was noted that the incident was a clear violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, which emphasizes freedom of navigation and prohibits attacks on commercial ships.
The statement expressed that targeting commercial ships and using the Strait of Hormuz as a means of pressure constitutes "piracy" carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. It was emphasized that this action poses a direct threat to regional stability and global energy security.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), in its statement during the night, reported that an unknown projectile hit an oil tanker approximately 145 kilometers north of the UAE's city of Fujairah in the Strait of Hormuz. The statement added that the crew is safe and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
