Russia shot down U.S. missiles used by Ukraine.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Ukraine attempted to attack Russia's Belgorod region with U.S.-made ATACMS operational tactical missiles on January 3.

It was reported that 8 missiles were shot down by the S-400 and Pantsir-SM air defense systems. The statement said, "The actions of the Western-backed Kiev regime will not go unanswered."

On January 20, U.S. President Joe Biden, who was preparing to hand over his duties to Donald Trump, approved Ukraine's use of ATACMS missiles in November, stating that this was a response to Russia's "expanding the conflict by deploying North Korean soldiers to the front lines in the war in Ukraine."
