WEIGHING A FULL 12 KILOGRAMS
Russian national Olga Viktorovna applied to Alanya Training and Research Hospital due to excessive abdominal enlargement and some complaints. Tests revealed a large mass in Viktorovna's abdomen.
Upon suspicion of infection and cancer, Associate Professor Dr. Emre Köle, faculty member of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University Faculty of Medicine, and Gynecologic Oncology Specialist Op. Dr. Merve Çakır Köle took the patient into emergency surgery.
In a successful operation, a 50-centimeter, 12-kilogram mass was removed from the patient's abdomen.
Associate Professor Dr. Emre Köle, who performed the operation, stated that the patient had a suspicion of cancer when she applied to the emergency department and that they successfully removed the giant ovarian mass, which reached 50 centimeters, through surgery.
LOST 20 KILOGRAMS AFTER SURGERY
Köle explained that after the mass was removed, the patient's kidney functions and infection values began to improve, and with the regression of edema and fluid accumulation in her body after the operation, the patient, who lost approximately 20 kilograms, was planned to be discharged in a short time.
Op. Dr. Merve Çakır Köle also stated that in the rapid pathological examination of the mass of the patient, who was taken into surgery under emergency conditions, a rare "granulosa cell tumor" of the ovaries was detected.
Expressing that they applied prophylactic surgical procedures to prevent the spread of the disease, Köle said, "The uterus, both ovaries, and the protective fatty tissue inside the abdomen were also removed in a successful operation. Thus, both the main operation and the complementary surgical procedures of the patient were performed."
Olga Viktorovna, who regained her health, stated that she held onto life again thanks to the doctors, saying, "My biggest luck was being in Turkey. They took care of me immediately and performed all my procedures quickly."
