23.05.2024 12:12

Seoul to host trilateral summit, 1st time in more than 4 years.

Seoul will host a summit next week which will be attended by South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

It will be their first trilateral summit in four-and-a-half years, Seoul-based Yonhap News reported.

The South Korean president will have separate bilateral meetings with visiting Chinese and Japanese premiers.

It is Li's first trip to South Korea since being appointed last year.

The trilateral summit is scheduled to discuss six areas of cooperation, comprising economy and trade, sustainable development, health issues, science and technology, disaster and safety management, and people-to-people exchanges.

"The summit will serve as a turning point for fully restoring and normalizing the trilateral cooperation system among South Korea, Japan, and China," said Kim Tae-hyo, who serves as the deputy national security adviser to Yoon.

"It will also provide an opportunity to recover future-oriented and practical cooperation momentum that will allow the people of the three countries to feel the benefits," Kim said. -
