A 'Rights Symposium' was organized by the Republican People's Party municipality between December 7-10 in the Fındıklı district of Rize. The program was brought to the agenda simultaneously with the funeral ceremony of Lieutenant Ceyhun Kalyoncu, who was martyred in a helicopter crash in Isparta, and the opening of a monument with songs and folk music held in Fındıklı. The 'Rights Symposium' has come back to the agenda with the images that emerged.
ACCUSING ATATÜRK AND HIS COMRADES OF GENOCIDE
The remarks made by Akın Birdal, former President of the Human Rights Association (İHD) and former Member of Parliament for the Democratic Society Party (DTP), regarding Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades during the event caused reactions. Birdal, who was introduced by CHP Mayor Ercüment Şahin Çervatoğlu as "a brother, our friend, our comrade," made a scandalous statement with false and unverifiable information about "Hacı Topal Osman Ağa," known for his role as the leader of local militia forces and commander of the guard battalion in the Eastern Black Sea during the War of Independence. Birdal described the struggle of Topal Osman, who was the commander of the guard unit consisting of people from Giresun during the years of the liberation struggle, as 'Armenian genocide' and 'Greek genocide,' while also likening the Republic of Turkey to a 'check, promissory note, mafia state.'
"WHEN I HEAR BLACK SEA, I REMEMBER TOPAL OSMAN"
In his speech at the program, Birdal stated, "If Turkey is to democratize and become free, if a peaceful, equal, and free life is to be defended, it must confront the 100 years of this Republic, now 101. When I hear Black Sea, I remember Topal Osman. Let's update it a bit. They say it's a check, promissory note, mafia state. Friends, there was a saying frequently used by Demirel. It's a militaristic saying, but it fits perfectly; 'The mistake made in the mobilization lasts until the end of the war.' The Republic of Turkey has a mistake in mobilization. A mistake was made in mobilization, and now it continues until the end of the war. The state is mafia; I remembered a bit, but now Topal Osman played a primary role in the Armenian massacre, played a primary role in the Greek massacre. Then he comes to the Aegean, again playing an important role in the massacre of the Greeks there. A shrapnel piece hits his leg, and when he is shot, he becomes lame, and then his name remains Topal Osman," he expressed.
INSULTED THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY
Birdal noted that he received instructions from Atatürk to kill Topal Osman, claiming that Topal Osman went to Çankaya Mansion to kill Atatürk, and that Atatürk escaped from Çankaya Mansion in a carriage wearing the clothes of his sister Latife Hanım, continuing his insults against the Republic of Turkey. Birdal claimed that there was a 'mafia, state, politics relationship' at the founding of the Republic, stating, "There is a very important article regarding human rights, friends; personal security and freedom. No one in this country has freedom and security. Not even those founders. Atatürk, in fact, calls Topal Osman to Çankaya to ensure his own security, to the guard battalion. Ali Şükrü, the Member of Parliament from Trabzon, is one of those who objected a lot in the parliament, one of those who disturbed Atatürk a lot. He is a member of parliament from Trabzon. Atatürk says, 'Silence him.' They go, Topal Osman's men, and take Ali Şükrü from a café in Ankara Hamam Pazarı. Topal Osman personally kills Ali Şükrü. After a while, of course, Topal Osman demands a price from Atatürk for this. What is given to such a killer, what is done? Atatürk shrugs it off. Following this, there is a place near the mansion called Papazın Bağı in Çankaya. Topal Osman decides to raid Çankaya with his entourage and will kill Atatürk. But Atatürk learns about this, and 15-20 minutes before Topal Osman arrives at Çankaya, he escapes in a carriage wearing his sister Latife Hanım's clothes. Look, if Topal Osman had come 15 minutes earlier, he would have slaughtered Atatürk and his entourage. Then history would be written differently. He escapes, but of course, Atatürk does not let this go unpunished. After a while, the heads of Topal Osman and his entire team are cut off. It doesn't stop there; a law is passed in the parliament, a death penalty decision. The corpses of all of them are taken out and hanged by their feet, Topal Osman and his friends. Look, this is how the founding history begins. The mafia, state, politics relationship. But now it has been positioned in such a way that there is a power struggle among the mafia," he said.
ADD FILED A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT
Ömer Toprak, President of the Atatürkist Thought Association (ADD) Rize Branch, filed a criminal complaint against Akın Birdal, who spoke at the symposium organized by the CHP municipality. Referring to Birdal as 'the suspect' and 'the known person,' Toprak stated, "We filed a criminal complaint regarding the slanderous and accusatory words used against Atatürk and the heroes of the national struggle at a symposium in Fındıklı. We filed a criminal complaint against the suspect who insults Atatürk, speaks ill of the Republic and the national struggle, and tries to discredit them. The known person, who virtually characterizes the national struggle of the Turkish nation as a bandit movement, is now facing a legal process, and we will follow up on the matter. He also uses inappropriate expressions against our national struggle heroes, Topal Osman. He characterizes our national struggle as Armenian genocide, Greek genocide, or massacre. We have also filed a criminal complaint regarding these words. We fought for independence. Our country was occupied. The occupying armies, along with gangs, criminal organizations, and hired killers, were coming down on our people. We stand behind the struggle our heroes gave to save our independence and honor. Oppressed nations have taken this struggle as an example, have been inspired by this struggle. It is not anyone's place to try to defame this. Today, we have filed a criminal complaint against that insolent person. Together with the support of the public, we will follow up on the matter," he said.
