"Second landslide on Marmara Island"

After a landslide occurred at a marble quarry in Marmara Island, Balıkesir, another landslide took place in the region. Authorities stated that the risk of further landslides is high and that investigations are ongoing.

On November 24th, a landslide occurred in the marble quarry owned by E.Ö. in the Saraylar neighborhood of Balıkesir Marmara Island; Ahmet Özmen and Mustafa Dak, who were trapped under the marble blocks, lost their lives. Following the incident, another slide occurred in the same area.

INCREASED SECURITY MEASURES ARE REQUESTED

After the tragic accident that occurred last week, activities in 8 marble quarries in the region were temporarily halted. It is stated that this decision prevented loss of life in today's incident. Authorities have indicated that the risk of landslides in the area is high and detailed inspections are ongoing. Residents of Marmara Island have demanded an increase in security measures in the region.
