E.B., who requested a wheelchair ramp to be built in front of her house for her disabled daughter in Diyarbakır Ergani, was attacked with a shovel by her neighbor Mehmet Kaçar. The woman, who received 12 stitches to her head, had her request fulfilled by the municipality, and the attacker was arrested.
In the Ergani district of Diyarbakır, on June 10, E.B. (65), who was injured with a shovel to the head by her neighbor for wanting to build a stair ramp in front of her house for her disabled daughter, had her request fulfilled by Ergani Municipality. The incident was reported by DHA under the headline 'Woman requesting ramp for disabled daughter attacked with shovel by neighbor caught on camera; suspect arrested.'
NEIGHBOR ATTACKER ARRESTED
The incident occurred on June 10 in Dicle Neighborhood, Ergani district. E.B., who lives with her disabled daughter, requested Ergani Municipality to build a stair ramp on the street so her daughter could easily enter and exit the house. Municipal teams started work in the area. However, the wife of E.B.'s neighbor, shopkeeper Mehmet Kaçar, intervened in the work and argued with municipal officials. Shortly after, an argument broke out between E.B., who came out of her house to protest the situation, and Mehmet Kaçar.
Mehmet Kaçar attacked E.B. with the shovel in his hand. The sharp part of the shovel hit her head, and E.B. collapsed to the ground. E.B. went to Ergani State Hospital on her own, where she received 12 stitches to her head. After E.B.'s complaint, Mehmet Kaçar was taken into custody and, following police procedures, was arrested by the court to which he was referred.
ATTACK CAUGHT ON CAMERA
Meanwhile, the attack was captured on the home security camera. The footage shows Mehmet Kaçar hitting E.B. on the head with the shovel, the moment she collapses, and scenes of Mehmet Kaçar's wife arguing with and driving away the workers while municipal teams were working.
"STREET MADE ACCESSIBLE"
Ergani Municipality fulfilled E.B.'s request by building the stair ramp. In a statement from the municipality, it was said, 'Our Directorate of Technical Affairs teams carried out arrangement works on Dicle 4th Street in Adnan Menderes Neighborhood, in line with the stair request from our citizens. As part of the work, the stair construction on the street was completed, and the area was reorganized in accordance with universal design principles, making it accessible. Our municipality will continue to provide services with an understanding of an equal, accessible, and shared life.'
