One of the notable sky events of 2026 took place today. The solar eclipse, observed as total in some parts of Europe and partial over a wider area, was broadcast live from an altitude of about 10,000 meters on a special flight organized by the Spanish airline Iberia.

BROADCAST LIVE FROM 10,000 METERS
Spanish airline Iberia, wanting to closely follow this natural event, organized a special flight with the participation of 30 astronomers. During the flight at approximately 10,000 meters (33,000 feet), the total solar eclipse was broadcast live.
STREAMED IN REAL TIME
The aircraft was equipped with three onboard cameras and a Starlink satellite connection. Thus, during the flight above the clouds, the eclipse was transmitted to viewers in real time. The astronomers on board also observed and analyzed the eclipse throughout the journey.
TEST MANEUVER ENSURED OPTIMAL CONDITIONS
Before the main event, the aircraft performed a test maneuver between 19:42 and 19:44 UTC. This maneuver checked the alignment with the Sun, camera framing, tracking system, and planned flight path, ensuring the most suitable viewing conditions for the live broadcast.
