President Erdogan made a statement regarding the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement signed in Saudi Arabia, where he went for an official visit. Erdogan said, 'The agreement, which also confirms the right of self-defense defined in Article 51 of the UN Charter, does not target any country and is open to the participation of all brotherly countries aiming for the peace, prosperity, and stability of our region.'
President Erdogan, in his statement regarding the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement, said, "It does not target any country and is open to the participation of brotherly countries aiming for the peace, prosperity, and stability of our region."
Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan signed the historic Makkah Joint Defense Agreement. The first statement regarding the joint security agreement came from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
In a post on his social media account, Erdogan recalled that he paid a visit to Makkah Al-Mukarramah upon the invitation of Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and that he met with Bin Salman and Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during the visit.
Stating that the agreement does not target any country, Erdogan said it is open to the participation of all brotherly countries aiming for peace in the region.
JOINT DEFENSE AGREEMENT SIGNED
In his statement on his social media account, Erdogan said the following:
"Today, we paid a visit to Makkah Al-Mukarramah in response to the kind invitation of Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. During my visit, I came together with my dear brothers, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
On this occasion, we signed a Joint Defense Agreement as three countries. This agreement, based on collective deterrence, will contribute to advancing our security and defense cooperation, developing joint projects in the defense industry, and combating terrorism.
The agreement, which also confirms the right of self-defense defined in Article 51 of the UN Charter, does not target any country and is open to the participation of all brotherly countries aiming for the peace, prosperity, and stability of our region.
In line with its vision of regional ownership, Turkey will resolutely continue its principled stance towards resolving conflicts and crises through dialogue and diplomacy, based on respect for international law.
I pray to God that our visit, consultations, and the agreement we signed will bring goodness to our entire region."
ERA OF "ONE FOR ALL" IN THE TRIPLE ALLIANCE
The agreement signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif includes critical articles.
According to the agreement, an attack on any member of the alliance is considered an attack on the other two countries as well.
COOPERATION FOCUSED ON REGIONAL STABILITY AND DEFENSE
It is emphasized that the Makkah Agreement is purely defensive in nature and does not target any country.
It aims to strengthen commitments such as preserving regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity based on burden-sharing and a common security understanding. This goal is summarized as "defense-focused cooperation."
DOOR OPEN TO NEW PARTICIPANTS
The agreement, which aims to strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression, stipulates that any armed attack against any of the three states is considered an attack against all.
It focuses on the three countries supporting each other's security and cooperating in defense and military fields.
According to officials, the Makkah Agreement, which does not mean a break from any alliance or agreement, complements existing allied relations, strengthens regional security, and establishes a cooperation platform open to the participation of other regional countries.
