Ekrem Imamoglu's son Selim Imamoglu responded to claims that he vacationed on a luxury yacht flying the Marshall Islands flag, which offers tax advantages. Stating that he would initiate legal proceedings against the allegations, Imamoglu referenced the tea in the photo, saying, "I drink my tea plain and without sugar, not with lemon."
A vacation photo allegedly shared by Selim İmamoğlu, son of Ekrem İmamoğlu—who was removed from his post as Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor after being arrested in a corruption investigation—has stirred widespread reaction on social media.
"FLAG OF CONVENIENCE" YACHT
In the vacation photo, recorded on a yacht, the flag of the Marshall Islands—described as a "flag of convenience" in the maritime sector, offering various advantages including tax exemptions and flexible inspection standards—was seen waving.
SELİM İMAMOĞLU'S STATEMENT: I DRINK MY TEA WITHOUT LEMON, PLAIN AND SUGAR-FREE
Regarding the photo that sparked significant debate amid Turkey's current economic crisis and ongoing political tensions, a statement came from Selim İmamoğlu's side.
In a statement on his social media account, Selim İmamoğlu said he would initiate legal proceedings over the allegations, adding: "I visited my father in Silivri this morning. His resilience and morale are very good. After my visit to my father, I came to the lab. As you can appreciate, pursuing a master's degree in Physics at ITU is quite challenging. I’m spending a lot of time on my thesis these days. While taking measurements for the thesis, I took a short break and came across an interesting post about me. It's not even necessary to explain, but my lawyers will take legal action. Also, I drink my tea without lemon, plain and sugar-free. Best regards..."
