The Marmaris Municipality had filed a criminal complaint against the former Mayor of Marmaris, Mehmet Oktay, and his team regarding the construction of the Sinpaş Kızılbük Resort Hotel and Timeshare in the Kızılkum Region of İçmeler Neighborhood, claiming that they issued building usage permits despite clear violations of regulations and laws.

HE HELD A PRESS CONFERENCE

Oktay, who stated that he learned that a disciplinary investigation was initiated against him by the CHP Central Headquarters following the criminal complaint made by his own party members, noted that he had not yet received any official information regarding the process and held a press conference about it.

"EVERYTHING WAS DONE WITH THE KNOWLEDGE AND APPROVAL OF THE CHP CENTRAL HEADQUARTERS"

Stating that he definitely has no crime, Oktay alleged without naming anyone that his party, the CHP, is conducting a political assassination against him. Regarding the Sinpaş construction, he said, "We have been declared the scapegoat. We have been subjected to a reputation assassination. I did not issue the first permit for the relevant project. You will see the signatures of the people currently in office on the last renewal permit before me. Unfortunately, those individuals who signed this permit are trying to bring my term into question. If we look at the political side of the matter, I obtained the approval of the central headquarters from the very beginning. I regularly submitted all reports to the central headquarters. Everything was done with the knowledge and approval of the CHP Central Headquarters," he stated.

"I AM BEING ACCUSED BEFORE THE LEGAL PROCESS IS OVER"

Oktay stated that the Muğla 2nd Administrative Court found the permits to be lawful, while the Muğla 3rd Administrative Court canceled them, but the process is still ongoing in higher courts, saying, "Before the judicial process is over, I am being declared a scapegoat for purely political reasons. This is not a fair approach. If there is a mistake, why was the permit renewed for the same project in 2018? Why are those who signed at that time not being questioned?" he said.

"I KNOW THIS POLITICAL OPERATION WILL FAIL"

In response to the question, "Did you ever sign anything regarding Sinpaş?" Mehmet Oktay said, "Of course I did, but I obtained the approval of the central headquarters. Everything I did was with the knowledge and approval of the CHP Central Headquarters. I spoke verbally with Seyit Torun. I did not do anything without his knowledge. Despite all the difficulties during my term, unlike now, I did not dismiss a single worker, did not underpay anyone, did not sell any real estate, and there was no seizure on any account or property of the municipality, and people were quite happy with the administration," asserting that his party, the CHP, is conducting a political assassination against him and that the related complaint and investigation are significant.
