Kahramankazan Mayor Selim Çırpanoğlu, who switched from CHP to AK Party, criticized his party's 20-year administration in the district based on services while praising Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş. Çırpanoğlu, who said, 'I laid asphalt in 2.5 years that wasn't laid in 20 years,' stated that Yavaş provides services without discriminating between CHP and AK Party municipalities.
Kahramankazan Mayor Selim Çırpanoğlu made statements at the municipality's Ordinary Assembly Meeting for September 2026 regarding the transition process to the AK Party, the work carried out in the district, and relations with the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.
Çırpanoğlu, who responded to the criticisms of Assembly Member Hacı Mahmut Ayhan, who resigned from the CHP and joined the YENİ Party, drew attention with his remarks about the services provided in the district during previous periods.
"WE LAID THE ASPHALT THAT WASN'T LAID IN 20 YEARS IN 2.5 YEARS"
Çırpanoğlu rejected criticisms that the asphalt work in the district was carried out in a discriminatory manner favoring certain individuals, and argued that the work was documented and transparent.
Çırpanoğlu said, "I still claim that I laid the asphalt in Kahramankazan in 2.5 years that wasn't laid in 20 years. Everything is clear, the tonnage of everything is known."
Stating that no distinction was made between political parties in the work, Çırpanoğlu said that besides the regions with AK Party and CHP assembly members, asphalt was also brought to Yayalar Neighborhood, the village of the former mayor.
Since Kahramankazan was governed by AK Party mayors for the 20-year period between 2004 and 2024, Çırpanoğlu's remarks drew attention as a criticism of his party's past administrations in the district after he joined the AK Party.
PRAISE FOR MANSUR YAVAŞ: HE DOESN'T DISTINGUISH BETWEEN PARTIES
Çırpanoğlu also used positive words about Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş. Stating that Yavaş does not look at which party the municipalities belong to when providing services, Çırpanoğlu said, "Mansur Bey has no practice of providing separate services to a CHP municipality and separate services to an AK Party municipality. You may have just gotten to know Mansur Bey, but I have known him for 7.5 years, and I served as his deputy mayor."
Stating that Kahramankazan receives important services from the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, Çırpanoğlu said, "I have thanked Mr. Mansur Yavaş so far for the services he has provided to Kahramankazan."
"I DID NOT MEET WITH MANSUR YAVAŞ AND ÖZGÜR ÖZEL BEFORE THE TRANSITION"
Çırpanoğlu announced that he did not meet with Mansur Yavaş and CHP Chairman Özgür Özel before joining the AK Party, stating that he did not find this ethically appropriate. Stating that he did not want his relations with Yavaş to be harmed, Çırpanoğlu said, "I thought it would not be right to go there and tell Mansur Bey, our Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, 'I am joining the AK Party.' A negative conversation or reaction that could occur there would damage the relationship between us."
HE EXPLAINED WHY HE JOINED THE AK PARTY
Çırpanoğlu argued that the decision to join the AK Party was based on the idea of bringing more services to Kahramankazan. Çırpanoğlu said, "This transition took place so that these things you mentioned could be done, urban transformation could be achieved, and things not done for the service of Kahramankazan could be done," and added that it is difficult to carry out major projects without the support of the central government.
Çırpanoğlu stated, "Urban transformations and other major services cannot be carried out without the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. What you can do with ABB or as Kahramankazan Municipality is limited, but what you can do with the state's resources is unlimited."

Regarding the decision to join the AK Party, Çırpanoğlu said, "We joined the AK Party because we trust our President's vision and to receive services."
Stating that he will provide equal services to all citizens who voted for him or not, Çırpanoğlu stated that his priority as the mayor is Kahramankazan.
STATIONERY SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS WILL CONTINUE
At the end of the meeting, Çırpanoğlu also made a statement regarding the new academic year, announcing that the gift voucher support for 1st-grade primary school students will continue this year as well. Stating that the vouchers can be used at 7 stationery stores operating in the district, Çırpanoğlu said that no discrimination will be made in the practice.
