Şule Altınbaş, 18, who had been battling liver failure in Ankara since she was 7, regained her health in 2022 with a liver transplant from her mother. After recovering, Altınbaş got married and, four years later, gave birth to her son Aras at the hospital where she had undergone the transplant. The young mother called for organ donation, saying, "The organ I received from my mother saved my life."
Şule Altınbaş (18), who has been fighting liver failure in ANKARA since she was 7 years old, experienced the joy of becoming a mother by giving birth to her baby in the same hospital 4 years after regaining her health through a liver transplant from her mother.
Şule Altınbaş was diagnosed with liver failure at the age of 7, and due to her illness she experienced itching, nosebleeds, weakness, and fatigue for many years. Altınbaş, who had been waiting for a liver transplant since childhood, clung to life 4 years ago with a liver transplant from her mother. After the transplant surgery performed by Prof. Dr. Mehmet Haberal and his team at Başkent University Hospital, Altınbaş regained her health upon completion of the treatment process.
After recovering, Altınbaş got married and this time experienced the excitement of becoming a mother in the same hospital where she had overcome her illness. Altınbaş named her son, whom she gave birth to in the hospital where her pregnancy was monitored, 'Aras'.
I BOTH HAD A TRANSPLANT AND BECAME A MOTHER
Şule Altınbaş said that she had been fighting liver failure since she was 7 years old, and said, "Before the transplant, I had a lot of itching. I had a lot of nosebleeds. There was a lot of weakness and fatigue. Then we came to Ankara Başkent Hospital. I waited for a transplant since childhood. Then I had the transplant and started life anew. My mother gave me her liver in 2022. May God be pleased with Professor Mehmet, too. He brought me to this point. I thank all our doctors very, very much. Thanks to Professor Mehmet, I regained my health. I recovered after my illness. I was always under our doctors' treatment. In this hospital, I both had a transplant and became a mother," she said.
DON'T LET YOUR ORGANS BECOME SOIL, LET THEM BECOME LIFE
Altınbaş, noting that she became a mother thanks to the transplant from her mother, said, "Let no one be afraid; I want them to donate their organs. Donating does not harm you. Because look where we have come from and to. You can donate your organs. When I gave birth to my child, the world already became mine. Years ago I clung to life here, and now I am clinging to life with my child. If I had not had a liver transplant, I could never have experienced this moment anyway. The organ I received from my mother changed my life, saved my life. Because my mother gave me her liver, may God be pleased with her a thousand times, too. Let no one be afraid; let them donate their organs. Let them donate organs. You cannot know where life will take you from and to. May your organs not become soil; may they become life. In the future, I want a healthy, peaceful life with my son," she said.
