Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded Melania Trump, the wife of US President Donald Trump, the First Class Order of Princess Olga for the humanitarian support she provided to Ukraine. The decision taken by decree was influenced by Melania Trump's efforts to reunite Ukrainian children taken to Russia with their families and her initiatives aimed at establishing a temporary humanitarian ceasefire in Oleshky.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded US First Lady Melania Trump the first degree of the Order of Princess Olga, one of Ukraine's important state honors. The decision, taken by presidential decree No. 1079/2026 published on November 4, 2026, received wide coverage in the Ukrainian press. Melania Trump's humanitarian diplomacy initiatives between Russia and Ukraine played a decisive role in granting the award.
ZELENSKY SIGNED THE DECREE
According to Ukraine-based Interfax, the rationale for the award to Melania Trump listed her significant personal humanitarian contributions to Ukraine, her activities aimed at protecting human rights, and her charitable work.
The decree particularly highlighted efforts to rescue Ukrainian children affected by Russia's attacks, forcibly displaced from occupied territories, or taken to Russia.
The Order of Princess Olga is among the state awards given to women who have made significant contributions in public service, social activities, and humanitarian fields in Ukraine.
MELANIA TRUMP STEPPED IN FOR A CEASEFIRE
Last month, Melania Trump took a role in negotiations aimed at delivering humanitarian aid to civilians and carrying out evacuations in Oleshky, a Ukrainian city under Russian control.
In a statement on October 23, the White House announced that Melania Trump had contributed to establishing a temporary ceasefire in the region by holding talks with Russian and Ukrainian officials.
Under the agreement, the parties agreed to temporarily pause military activities to allow humanitarian aid supplies to reach the city and civilians to be safely evacuated.
SHE HELPED UKRAINIAN CHILDREN REUNITE WITH THEIR FAMILIES
Melania Trump also made diplomatic efforts to reunite children separated from their families because of the war.
According to the White House statement, thanks to the contacts conducted by Melania Trump, a total of 34 children were reunited with their relatives in six separate family reunification operations. These efforts were carried out through communication channels established between Russia and Ukraine.
Melania Trump emphasized that in these initiatives, the safety of children and their reunification with their families should be placed above political disputes.
THANKS FROM ZELENSKY TO MELANIA TRUMP
In a statement on November 1, Zelensky thanked Melania Trump for her contributions to the humanitarian aid operation in Oleshky. The Ukrainian leader stated that thanks to the US First Lady's initiative, medical supplies and humanitarian aid were delivered to the region and civilians were evacuated.
Zelensky also expressed hope that similar humanitarian ceasefires would be implemented in other regions. It was reported that about 800 people were evacuated from the dangerous area as part of the operation in Oleshky.
