A striking statement came from former MP Şamil Tayyar regarding the reaction the fund investigation has created in AK Party organizations. Tayyar, relaying that at a party meeting held in a province, the provincial deputy chair said, "We want to see Fatma Betül Sayan on trial," stated that everyone in the hall applauded this demand standing.
As the fund investigation on Turkey's agenda continues, former AK Party Gaziantep MP Şamil Tayyar made a striking post regarding the reactions in party organizations. Tayyar reported that at a party meeting held in a province, a call was made for former Minister of Family and Social Policies Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya to be tried, and said that party members attending the meeting applauded these words standing up.
"THE BIGGEST REACTION TO THE FUND SWINDLE IS RISING FROM WITHIN THE AK PARTY"
In a statement on social media platform X, Şamil Tayyar argued that the fund investigation had caused serious discomfort in AK Party organizations.
Tayyar drew attention to reactions within the party, using the expressions, "The biggest reaction to the fund swindle is rising from within the AK Party. It is a situation we are not very used to in politics."
Pointing to the 25 years since the founding of the AK Party, Tayyar stated that what happened showed that the party organizations had preserved their reflex to react.
"WE WANT TO SEE FATMA BETÜL SAYAN ON TRIAL"
Describing the meeting held the day before as an example of the discomfort in party organizations, Tayyar said that a provincial deputy chair took the floor and voiced his reaction to the fund investigation.
Tayyar used the following expressions in his post:
"At a party meeting in one of our provinces, a provincial deputy chair takes the floor, stands up, pours out his anger at the fund swindle, and then says:
'We want to see Fatma Betül Sayan on trial.'"
"EVERYONE IN THE HALL IS GIVING A STANDING OVATION"
Stating that the reaction of party members was as important as the call made at the meeting, Tayyar reported that the statements in question were applauded standing by those in the hall.
Tayyar said, "You may think of it as 'personal enmity,' you may call it 'an impulsive outburst.' However, everyone in the hall is giving this demand a standing ovation. That is the essence of the matter."
The former MP did not share in which province the meeting was held or the identity of the provincial deputy chair who made the statement in question.
FATMA BETÜL SAYAN KAYA HAD TESTIFIED IN THE INVESTIGATION
Former Minister of Family and Social Policies Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya had come to the fore in the fund investigation due to stock exchange transactions she carried out together with her husband, İlyas Kaya.
It had been stated that the Kaya couple invested approximately 163 million lira in Özata Denizcilik shares and, a few months later, carried out a sale worth 2.17 billion lira. The transactions in question had caused controversy due to the size of the profit obtained.
Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya had resigned from her position as AK Party Deputy Chairman on September 27. Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Kaya and her husband testified as suspects on October 7.
1.86 BILLION LIRA IN PROFIT WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE TMSF ACCOUNT
In their statements to the prosecutor's office, the Kaya couple denied the allegations that they carried out the stock exchange transactions by receiving insider information or through the guidance of others.
It had been reported that approximately 1.86 billion lira in profit obtained by the couple within the scope of the investigation was transferred to the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) account with the permission of the prosecutor's office.
