A surprise witness has emerged in the investigation into the death of 21-year-old university student Rojin Kabaiş, whose lifeless body was found by the lakeside in Van last year. A citizen who approached the prosecutor's office stated that they believed they saw Rojin on the evening of September 27, when she went missing, while returning to the guesthouse. The surprise witness said, "A man was holding the arm of the girl I thought resembled Rojin. He said, 'Come on, we are going.' The girl asked, 'Does my father know?' He replied, 'Yes.'"
Rojin Kabaiş, a student at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, went missing after leaving the dormitory on September 27, and her lifeless body was found on October 15 at the beach in Mollakasım neighborhood of İpekyolu district. While discussions continue about whether the incident was a murder or a suicide, the investigation initiated by the Van Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to uncover the mystery of the incident is ongoing.
NEW WITNESS EMERGED AFTER THE FORENSIC REPORT
In the case where the veil of secrecy is being lifted, the report from the Forensic Medicine Institution's Biological Specialization Department revealed that DNA belonging to two unidentified men was found on the young girl's body. Following the report's release to the press, a statement given to the prosecutor's office by a citizen living in Manisa added a new dimension to the investigation.
"HE GRABBED HER ARM AND FORCED HER INTO THE CAR"
The witness, who stated that he was in Van with his wife for an event on the date of the incident, shared the dialogue he witnessed while returning to the guesthouse on the evening of September 27, when Rojin went missing. According to a report by GazeteDetay, the witness said in his statement that he saw a young girl resembling Rojin Kabaiş alongside a man approximately 1.70 meters tall, stating, "A man grabbed the arm of the girl I thought resembled Rojin. He said, 'Come on, we are going.' The girl asked, 'Does my father know?' The man replied, 'Yes.'
"THERE WAS A SECOND PERSON IN THE VEHICLE"
The most critical detail in the witness's statement was the emphasis on the "second person," which aligns with the DNA report. The witness noted that there was a vehicle waiting across the street and that there was another young man inside the vehicle, stating, "They got into that car with the girl. I don't know where they went."
"I BECAME SUSPICIOUS WHEN I SAW THE DNA REPORT"
When asked why he gave a statement now, a year after the incident, the witness drew attention to the Forensic Medicine report that appeared in the media. The witness explained, "When I read in the news that two people's DNA was found on Rojin, the two men I saw that night came to my mind, and I felt the need to give a statement out of suspicion."
It is expected that the prosecutor's office will deepen the investigation in line with this new statement and initiate an examination of the vehicle and the descriptions provided by the witness.
NUMBER OF PEOPLE FROM WHOM DNA SAMPLES WERE TAKEN REACHED 195
On the other hand, it was reported that the number of people from whom DNA profiles were taken after the Forensic Medicine report in the investigation related to Rojin Kabaiş's death has reached 195.
