When you call right right and wrong wrong, your word retains its weight.'
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made important evaluations on the agenda in his party's group meeting. Özel thanked Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi and Ankara Governor Vasip Şahin for the dismissal of the Ayaş District Governor.
“THEY HAVE DONE THEIR DUTY”
Özel said in a statement on the matter, “I could have slammed that Ayaş District Governor here, crushed him, and then said many things to the Interior Minister and the Ankara Governor, but now I cannot. Because the Ankara Governor, who removed that insolence and removed yesterday’s again, acted like an Ankara Governor.”
“I CONGRATULATE THEM”
Stating that he would not criticize the Interior Minister and the Ankara Governor, Özel said, “From now on, I have no words to say to the Interior Minister and the Ankara Governor; they have done their duty, I congratulate them. We call truth truth.”
WHAT HAPPENED?
Ayaş District Governor Muharrem Eligül had made controversial posts on his social media account. The governor first shared a statement starting with the basmala in Arabic and Turkish over the claim that the municipality's press officer was not allowed into the April 23 ceremony, then deleted the post. The Ankara Governor's Office announced the same day that it had launched an investigation into the post.
HE SAID “SHUT UP!”
Later, CHP Ankara Deputy Umut Akdoğan wrote on X, “Ayaş District Governor, don't think we forgot you. We will talk about your insolence this week in the Turkish Grand National Assembly,” and Eligül quoted this post, writing “SHUT UP!” Eligül later deleted this post as well. In a statement made by the Ministry of Interior, it was stated that Eligül, who was dismissed, was appointed as the new legal advisor to the Edirne Governor's Office.
