WINTER IS COMING BACK
Next week, temperatures will suddenly drop by 22 degrees across the country. In fact, snowfall is expected to be effective in the high points of Istanbul. According to information shared by Hava Forum, in some cities, this temperature difference could reach 34 degrees. In Eskişehir Sarıcakaya, the air temperature, which will be 37 degrees on Sunday, March 16, is expected to drop to 3 degrees by Thursday, March 20. In the capital Ankara, a thermal shock will occur. The air temperature, which will be 29 degrees on Sunday, March 16, will fall to 1 degree by Thursday, March 20.
AKOM'S SNOW WARNING
The Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality also issued a warning due to the expected sudden drop in temperatures in the city. In a statement from AKOM, it was reported that the south wind could increase its strength and reach storm levels in the afternoon and evening hours on Sunday. The statement included, "There is a possibility of snowfall in the high areas on the night of March 19, Wednesday, and on March 20, Thursday."
In the statement emphasizing that winter conditions are expected to be effective in Istanbul from March 18 to March 23, it was reported that temperatures are predicted to be 6-8 degrees below seasonal norms. It was stated that temperatures are expected to rise back to seasonal norms during the last week of March and the week of Ramadan Bayram, and a warning was issued to be cautious against the expected south wind storm over the weekend and the subsequent cold air wave.
RECORD FOR MARCH WILL BE BROKEN ON SUNDAY
Environmental, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Meteorology Expert Murat Acar stated, "On Sunday, there is a possibility of breaking the records for March. Especially in Ankara, Istanbul, the eastern Marmara Region, and the Western Black Sea, there is a possibility that temperatures will reach March records over the weekend. For example, we predict that the temperature in Ankara will be measured at 28-30 degrees, which is nearly 20 degrees above seasonal norms. Yesterday, 32 degrees was measured in Zonguldak Devrek, which can be considered a July-August temperature." Acar described the temperature values above seasonal norms as "extreme," stating that the atmosphere would want to restore its balance.
TEMPERATURES WILL DROP SUDDENLY BY 20-25 DEGREES
Murat Acar noted that temperatures are expected to drop by 20-25 degrees next week, and continued: "Starting from Tuesday, our country will be under the influence of a cold and rainy weather system expected to come from the Balkans, which is unusual for March. Starting from Thrace, especially in the Marmara Region, temperatures will suddenly drop from Tuesday, and we expect sudden temperature drops. We expect temperature drops close to 20-25 degrees. Again, starting from Wednesday, we will see cold weather conditions spreading to the interior of the country, and from Thursday, it will reach the eastern regions, which we expect to last until March 23-24."
IT WILL AFFECT HUMAN HEALTH AS WELL
Meteorology Expert Acar stated regarding the expected temperature drops, "We expect sudden temperature drops that will affect human health. Meteorological conditions will also arise that will affect both physical health and the mental health of people psychologically and sociologically."
Murat Acar indicated that cold and rainy weather conditions would last until March 23-24, and then temperatures are expected to rise, sharing the prediction that "there will again be a spring-like weather in the first days of Ramadan Bayram."
