A new entrance-exit arrangement in a market parking lot in Bolu cost drivers who refused to abandon old habits dearly. Tires of nearly 20 vehicles attempting to enter the parking lot from the wrong direction burst due to iron traps laid on the road.
The management of a private market located in Bolu's Karaçayır Neighborhood decided to separate the entrance and exit points to regulate traffic flow in the parking lot.
IRON TRAPS INSTALLED
Iron traps were installed at points that were previously freely used for both entry and exit, to enforce one-way passage. With this arrangement, it was ensured that vehicles enter the parking lot from a single point and exit only from another designated point.
TIRES OF NEARLY 20 VEHICLES, VICTIMS OF 'HABIT', BURST
Despite the 'Caution: trap ahead' sign, drivers who did not notice the new arrangement or tried to enter the parking lot from the wrong direction (exit point) out of old habits experienced a great shock. The tires of approximately 20 vehicles that attempted to drive over the iron traps placed at the exit point burst. While the vehicles with burst tires were stranded at the parking lot entrance, mobile tire repairmen called to the area came to the drivers' rescue.
"IT COUNTS TO THE CITIZENS"
Fahrettin Kalaycı, a mobile tire repairman who came to the scene and changed the vehicles' tires, stated that drivers suffered due to their old habits. Noting that he had repaired up to four vehicles himself so far, Kalaycı said: "I'm now working on the 4th vehicle. We managed to prevent two other vehicles heading towards the traps while we were here, but we couldn't notice this one, and it drove over them. My guess is it's entirely a matter of habit. The new entrance here has been moved to the back, which feels strange to the citizens. When they want to enter from the place they're used to, this happens."
While the vehicles with repaired tires continued on their way out of the parking lot, it was learned that authorities warned drivers to pay attention to the new direction signs and traps.
