Security camera footage revealed the horrifying details of the incident. As Adriana descended from the fifth floor, the elevator suddenly went out of control and fell freely. There were two male passengers in the elevator as well.
Adriana's husband, Gildelio Alves do Santos, worked as the building's doorman and had to watch his wife's final moments on security cameras. Gildelio recounted his trauma, saying, "I saw my wife going up; everything was normal. But when she came down, I was horrified."
After the accident, Adriana was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries, but she passed away a week later. The other two passengers in the elevator survived by chance.
The investigation is still ongoing. It was revealed that the elevator had not been updated for over 60 years and was the same one that was installed when the building was first constructed. Authorities are investigating the incident as a suspicious death and injury.
