Turkish Football Federation President Ibrahim HaciOsmanoglu made striking statements during a live broadcast regarding referee controversies, foreign player regulations, and betting investigations. While stating that referees do not determine the fate of the league, HaciOsmanoglu also announced that there would be no changes to the foreign player rule.
TFF President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu gave a clear answer to the long-debated question about the foreign player rule in Turkish football. Speaking live on air, Hacıosmanoğlu announced that there will be no change in the foreign player rule to be applied next season.
“CURRENT SYSTEM WILL CONTINUE”
Speaking about the foreign player limit, Hacıosmanoğlu stated that the previously announced plan will be implemented, saying, “No change next year. It was 2 out of 14 foreigners, now increased to 4. We announced that last season. We are continuing in that direction.” The TFF President also said they are working to make foreign player criteria more qualified in the future.
CLOSES THE BOOK ON FOREIGN REFEREES
Hacıosmanoğlu also touched on the foreign referee debates, stating that the practice was only for one occasion. Emphasizing their trust in Turkish referees, the TFF President argued that Turkey is in a better position compared to error rates in Europe. “The referees with the fewest mistakes in Europe are here,” said Hacıosmanoğlu, adding that there is no need for foreign referees.
HARSH REACTION TO POST-MATCH PROGRAMS
During the live broadcast, Hacıosmanoğlu also harshly criticized post-match football programs, stating that the broadcasting approach in Turkey harms football.
Targeting some commentators, the TFF President made striking remarks by claiming that in the past, match results were determined by directives.
“MATCHES WILL BE WON ON THE FIELD”
Stating that they have adopted a fair management approach since taking office, Hacıosmanoğlu emphasized that matches should be won on the field, not at the desk.
The TFF President also said that Turkish referees will once again officiate at major events such as the World Cup and European Championship in the future, expressing their trust in young referees.
