It has been alleged that Ozan Köprülü, whom Sergen Yalçın, the new head coach of the Turkish National Football Team, wanted to include in the squad he submitted to the TFF, was vetoed. The reason for the decision was cited as the 12-month suspension penalty Köprülü received due to betting.
The Turkish Football Federation appointed Sergen Yalçın as the head coach of the Turkish National Football Team following Vincenzo Montella. With the start of a new era for the Crescent-Stars, Yalçın’s assistants with whom he will work also became a matter of curiosity. The TFF announced that a four-year contract would be signed with the experienced coach.
VETO CLAIM FOR HIS ASSISTANT
According to journalist Tahir Kum, Sergen Yalçın submitted to the federation the list of technical staff he wanted to serve in the National Team. However, it was claimed that the TFF did not approve Ozan Köprülü, who was among his assistants on the list.
BETTING PENALTY CITED AS THE REASON
In Kum’s report, the reason for Köprülü’s veto was cited as the 12-month deprivation of rights penalty he received due to betting. It was alleged that the coach whom Yalçın wanted to include in his team was opposed from serving in the National Team because of this penalty.
