Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced that the 19-year-old unsolved case regarding the unidentified male corpse found in 2007 in the Kozluk district of Batman has been solved. DNA analysis determined the body belonged to Aydın Özcan, while 10 suspects were detained as a result of evidence, witness statements, technical surveillance, and field investigations.

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced in a statement on his social media account that the investigation into a male corpse found in Batman in 2007, whose identity could not be determined for many years, has been concluded.

IDENTITY DETERMINED THROUGH DNA ANALYSIS

Gürlek stated that solving unsolved cases is of great importance for trust in justice, and noted that the case was re-examined under the coordination of the Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department established within the Ministry of Justice.

As a result of the investigation conducted by the Batman and Kozluk Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices and the efforts of law enforcement units, particularly JASAT, it was determined through DNA analysis that the male corpse found in the Kozluk district of Batman in 2007 belonged to Aydın Özcan, who had no official records since that date.

10 SUSPECTS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

Minister Gürlek reported that, following the evidence obtained in the case, which was solved nearly 19 years later, along with witness statements, technical surveillance, and field investigations, legal proceedings were initiated against 10 suspects, and the suspects were taken into custody.

"THE 19-YEAR VEIL OF MYSTERY HAS BEEN LIFTED"

Thanking the Batman and Kozluk Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices, as well as the Gendarmerie and JASAT teams involved in the investigation, Gürlek stated, "Under the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and with the strong coordination of our Ministries of Justice and Interior, we will resolutely continue our efforts to strengthen our nation's trust in justice and to solve cases that wound the public conscience."
