OTHER POPULAR CHAINS ARE ALSO SHUTTING DOWN
According to a report in The Sun newspaper, this decision by the Whitbread group, which also owns Premier Inn hotels, was not limited to Brewers Fayre alone. It was announced that the group's chains Bar + Block, Cookhouse + Pub, and Table + Table closed a total of 66 branches as of September 3rd, while another popular brand, Beefeater, will cease operations at all its locations on September 10th.
FOCUS ON HOTEL CONVERSION AND SAVINGS
The radical restructuring, which Whitbread CEO Dominic Paul signaled in April due to the rising cost burden, is based on a comprehensive five-year savings strategy. Within the framework of this plan, the company aims to sell 110 of its properties and convert some restaurant locations into 600 new hotel rooms, saving a total of £250 million. Additionally, it targets a massive property sale worth £1.5 billion to finance future growth and investments.
53 LOCATIONS WILL CONTINUE UNDER DIFFERENT BRANDS
Not all of the areas closed under the downsizing and divestment strategy will remain idle. According to available information, 53 of the closed establishments have been transferred under an agreement with Queensway Hospitality Group. It was stated that these locations will continue to serve under different brands in the coming period.
