A 72-year-old retired architect, for whom an arrest warrant was issued in connection with the hotel fire in Bolu Kartalkaya that resulted in the deaths of 78 people, has been detained in Istanbul.
One person was detained in Istanbul regarding the hotel fire in Bolu Kartalkaya, which claimed the lives of 78 people. Retired architect Ali B. (72), for whom an arrest warrant was issued in connection with the Grand Kartal Hotel fire in Kartalkaya, was taken into custody by police teams at his residence in Sancaktepe and was brought to the police station. It was learned that Ali B. has a record for the crime of "causing injury by negligence," and his procedures are ongoing.
THE NUMBER OF DETENTIONS RISES TO 12
In connection with the fire, 11 people, including the hotel operations manager, the Deputy Mayor of Bolu, and the Fire Chief, had been detained. Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announced during a television program that the number of detentions had risen to 12. In his statement, Tunç said, "The process is ongoing. Actions will be taken based on the expert examination. Currently, there is evidence obtained, including camera recordings. This tragedy will be investigated in all its details."
THE FIRE CLAIMED 78 LIVES
A fire broke out at the Grand Kartal Hotel, one of the five hotels located at an altitude of 2,200 meters on the summit of the Köroğlu Mountains, 38 kilometers from the center of Bolu, during the night of January 21. The fire started in the restaurant area on the fourth floor according to the back entrance and minus one according to the main entrance. The flames grew rapidly. After a report was made to the 112 Emergency Call Center at 03:21, teams were dispatched to the area. The fire was extinguished after 11 hours of work. A total of 78 people lost their lives in the fire.
