After the accident at the train station in Novi Sad, Serbia, where 15 people died, the entire country was shaken. Protests were held in many cities, especially in the capital, Belgrade. Tens of thousands of citizens took to the streets with the slogan "Stop Serbia." In the crowd that blocked the roads in front of official institutions, a student was injured as a result of being hit by a car.
On November 1, 2024, following the collapse of a concrete canopy at the train station in Novi Sad, a city in northern Serbia, 15 people lost their lives, leading the entire country to take to the streets in protest. University, college, and high school students, along with supportive citizens, organized protests in many cities, including the capital Belgrade, to express their outrage.
THEY BLOCKED THE ROADS
Tens of thousands of people blocked the roads in front of official institutions for 15 minutes with the slogan "Stop Serbia." There were arguments between the protesters blocking traffic and drivers. During the protest held yesterday, a student was injured when a car hit them while traffic was being blocked. Police teams detained the driver responsible for the accident.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated in a social media post that all politicians in the country were called upon and that they needed to be protected from instability. Vucic expressed that they wanted security forces to be informed in advance about where the protests would take place, saying, "I ask those organizing illegal actions to inform us about where these meetings will be held. This way, we can provide police protection. It has been two and a half months since the terrible tragedy, the state did its job, the prosecutor's office filed a case, and now the decision is with the courts."
THE OPPOSITION WANTED TO CLOSE THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING
Meanwhile, opposition representatives in the Novi Sad City Council wanted to block the entrances to the building. A barricade was set up in front of the building with the intervention of police teams.
WHAT HAPPENED?

Following the incident, Minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure Goran Vesic and Minister of Internal and Foreign Trade Tomislav Momirovic resigned. After the prosecutor's investigation, 11 people, including Minister Vesic, were detained. While there were suspicions of negligence regarding the repair work done at the train station in 2021, it was noted that the police had questioned many individuals related to the incident.
