CRITICAL STATEMENTS FROM AK PARTY'S GÜLER
AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler spoke at a press conference held in the TBMM regarding the law proposal. Güler stated that his party sees the fight against climate change as a non-partisan issue and that the world is facing the increasing effects of the climate crisis.
Emphasizing that they have centered the fight against climate change, Güler said, "With the Climate Law, we aim to strengthen the adaptation process of our cities to climate conditions, make our economy resilient to negative outcomes, increase the international competitiveness of sectors, and especially create a cleaner and more efficient production process and chain in all our sectors. I would like to express that this law proposal is prepared with an approach that protects not only the industrial sector but also the cities we live in, agriculture, livestock, and green spaces."
"THE 2053 NET ZERO EMISSIONS TARGET AND GREEN GROWTH VISION ARE BEING TARGETED"
Noting that they are going for a new regulation with the law proposal, Güler stated, "With this proposal, we aim to achieve a livable world by providing more efficient production with less energy, and in this direction, the 2053 net zero emissions target and green growth vision are being targeted. The fundamental principles such as climate justice, which aims to eliminate inequalities in the fight against climate change, and fair transition that expresses the fair management of employment processes, sustainability, and transparency are also included in our law proposal."
Monitoring related to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and adaptation activities to climate change, the powers of the presidency, the implementation of projects, cooperation, and data sharing principles are also regulated. With our law proposal, obligations are foreseen for relevant institutions and organizations, taking into account the development priorities and special conditions of our country. In this context, some concrete greenhouse gas emission reduction and climate change adaptation activities that will guide institutions and organizations are included," he said.
"REVENUES WILL BE ALLOCATED TO CLIMATE CHANGE FIGHT SUPPORTS"
Emphasizing that Local Climate Change Action Plans will be prepared to address local issues and meet the needs of provinces, Güler stated, "With another amendment, implementation tools that include financing, technology development, and capacity-building activities for the fight against climate change are included. It is also stated in our proposal that the Turkey Green Taxonomy will be established, which will determine and monitor whether an investment is truly environmentally friendly and does not negatively affect climate change, thus accelerating and supporting international financial flows." Güler also mentioned that the proposal should be considered a 'Framework Law' and will be updated in the coming years.
