AK Party spokesperson Ömer Çelik criticized the CHP's decision not to attend the opening of the Grand National Assembly, stating, "By protesting the Supreme Assembly, they would be denying their own political existence. The home of every entity claiming to engage in politics is the Assembly. Those who try to render the Assembly dysfunctional have always been centers of tutelage." Çelik described the dialogue among political parties as a clear response to the chaos in the outside world.
On October 1, Wednesday, the opening of the 28th Term 4th Legislative Year of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) was held. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with party leaders before leaving the Assembly. Erdoğan stated after the reception, "We had a very sincere meeting with the leaders." The CHP did not attend the General Assembly and the reception, saying, "Erdoğan has lost his legitimacy in our eyes." The CHP seats remained empty during the TBMM opening.
AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik made statements regarding the CHP's absence from the Assembly opening and the reception held in the Assembly Ceremony Hall.
"IT IS A CLEAR AND NATIONAL RESPONSE TO THE CHAOS IN THE OUTSIDE WORLD"
Çelik expressed that the dialogue among political parties is a clear and national response to the chaos in the outside world, stating, "It is a valuable gathering for our political and state life that our esteemed President, as the head of our state, came together with respected political party leaders on the day the Supreme Assembly was opened."
The Supreme Assembly, which is the place where the national will is manifested, represents the high will of our nation. The leadership of our President, who was elected by the direct votes of our people and serves with one of the highest legitimacy rates in world political history, in the unity at the Supreme Assembly, and the participation of esteemed political party leaders in this, has revealed an exceptional democratic consciousness that flows from the depths of our state life.
Despite differing views, the dialogue among political parties on the opening day of the Assembly is also a clear and national response to the chaos in the outside world," he stated.
HARSH REACTION TO CHP
Çelik harshly reacted to the CHP's absence from the Assembly opening, saying, "We see that the negative approaches towards this unity come from the CHP administration, which has fallen into a historical mistake of protesting the Assembly, and from some circles that want to undermine civil politics. These are approaches that contradict the 'existence of democracy' and the 'logic of politics.'
Every group that protests the Supreme Assembly denies its own political existence. The 'home' of every structure that claims to engage in politics is the Assembly. Those who try to render the Assembly dysfunctional have always been centers of tutelage. It is grave for this mentality to infiltrate any political party.
The Assembly is the place of the nation; democratic politics is the trust of the nation. The approach of everyone who contributes to these values is respectable. Conversely, actions that contradict this are harmful to the trust of the nation."
