A bill has been introduced to the U.S. Congress that calls for an examination of President Donald Trump's fitness to perform his duties.

A bill has been introduced to the U.S. Congress proposing an examination of President Donald Trump's fitness to perform his duties.

BILL CONCERNING TRUMP'S MENTAL HEALTH INTRODUCED

U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin submitted a bill proposal to Congress to establish a "Commission on Presidential Capacity to Discharge the Powers and Duties of Office" to examine Donald Trump's fitness to perform his duties.

According to a report by The Hill newspaper; the bill includes a mental or physical medical examination to determine whether the president can perform his duties, powers, and responsibilities, if requested by Congress.

COULD MENTAL FITNESS BE DEEMED INADEQUATE?

While 50 Democratic members in the House of Representatives support the bill, the proposal is seen as unlikely to pass in the Congress where Republicans hold the majority.

The U.S. Constitution states; if it is determined that the president is unable to perform his duties, the vice president assumes the duties acting as president upon written declaration by the vice president and a majority of the cabinet, or by such other body as Congress may by law provide.

ALLEGATION THAT TRUMP WEAKENED PUBLIC TRUST

Raskin argued that Trump's "threat to destroy all civilizations," "creating chaos in the Middle East by violating Congress's war powers," "aggressively insulting the Pope of the Catholic Church," and sharing images online likening himself to Jesus Christ in the Christian tradition have weakened public trust in his capacity to perform the presidential duties.

Raskin stated that due to Trump's aforementioned statements and actions, public trust in his capacity to perform the presidential duties has experienced "an unprecedented decline," and claimed that Congress fulfilling its responsibilities on this matter has now "become a national security issue."

In the U.S., for a president to be impeached, a simple majority must be reached in the House of Representatives, and to be convicted and removed from office, a two-thirds majority vote is required in the Senate.

TRUMP DELETED CONTROVERSIAL JESUS SHARE

U.S. President Donald Trump, in a post from his social media account, had criticized Pope Leo XIV, arguing that the Pope was "weak on crime and nuclear weapons" and "terrible on foreign policy."

Approximately an hour after these criticisms, Trump had shared an image depicting himself like Jesus Christ in the Christian tradition. This post was later deleted from Trump's social media account.
