In Istanbul's Bağcılar district, 20-year-old H.Ç., who set fire to his family's apartment and fled after his mother refused to give him money, was quickly apprehended by police. No one was killed or injured in the fire by chance, but the house sustained extensive damage. Examination of the suspect revealed a record for arson, fraud, and extortion, as well as two additional arrest warrants against him.
A 20-year-old young man in Istanbul's Bağcılar district, unable to get the money he asked for from his mother, went blind with rage, set the family home on fire, and fled. Thanks to the swift intervention of fire crews, disaster was narrowly averted, and the ungrateful son who fled was quickly caught red-handed by police teams.
SET THE HOUSE ON FIRE AFTER BEING TOLD "NO MONEY"
The incident occurred around 18:45 in the evening on the top floor of a 4-story building located on 1765 Sokak in Bağcılar Fatih Mahallesi. According to allegations, 20-year-old H.Ç. asked his mother S.Ç. for money. After his mother gave a negative response, a verbal argument ensued between the two. Unable to control his anger, H.Ç. set his mother's apartment on fire and quickly fled the scene.
FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN SHORT TIME
Upon notice from neighborhood residents who saw flames and smoke rising from the house, numerous fire, police, and emergency medical teams were dispatched to the area. As a result of the intense intervention by fire crews, the fire was brought under control and extinguished before spreading to other apartments. Health teams determined during checks that, by chance, no one was killed or injured, while significant material damage occurred in the arson-hit apartment.
TWO SEPARATE ARREST WARRANTS EXIST
Following the incident, teams from the Bağcılar District Police Department launched an extensive operation to capture the arson suspect who had fled. H.Ç., whose description was identified, was quickly tracked down by police teams and taken into custody.
During a detailed background and archive check on the suspect taken to the police station, it was determined that he had records for crimes such as 'Arson', 'Fraud via Information Systems', and 'Blackmail', and that there were also 2 separate arrest warrants issued by courts against him.
The suspect's procedures at the police station are ongoing.
