Audi will provide additional compensation to its employees as part of the social plan regarding the closure of its factory in Brussels, in addition to the legal severance pay. Employees with 30 years of service will receive gross compensation ranging from 200,000 to 400,000 euros.

The management of Audi's Brussels factory, which is set to close soon, has reached an agreement with union representatives regarding a social plan for employees. According to reports in the Belgian press, an agreement has been reached in the social plan negotiations between the management of Audi, a brand of the German automotive manufacturer Volkswagen Group, and labor unions concerning the Brussels factory, which will close at the end of February.

EMPLOYEES WILL RECEIVE DOUBLE COMPENSATION

As part of the agreement, Audi will provide factory employees with double the legally required compensation, in addition to a bonus based on their length of service. In this context, factory employees with 30 years of service will receive gross compensation ranging from 200,000 to 400,000 euros, depending on their positions and salaries.

AUDI IS STRUGGLING WITH FINANCIAL ISSUES

The Audi brand announced last July that due to a decline in demand at the Brussels factory, where the luxury segment electric vehicle model Q8 is produced and approximately 3,000 people are employed, a restructuring would take place, and production of these models would continue in Mexico.

THEY HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO SELL THE FACTORY

Audi management announced that as of early September 2024, the Volkswagen Group had not allocated any models for production at the Brussels factory, which had disturbed factory employees and unions.

Employees had received the keys to completed vehicles without starting work. Audi had begun searching for new investors for the closing Brussels factory. Despite discussions with more than 20 investors during this process, no suitable buyer had been found. In line with the company's decision, Audi's Brussels factory will close at the end of February.
