Members of a gang that caused the deaths of newborns by keeping them in intensive care to receive payments from SGK in Istanbul have now turned against each other. After Mustafa Kemal Zengin, who introduced himself as a former Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, and lawyer Aylin Arslantatar issued death threats to the prosecutor, it was revealed that Zengin stated, "They are very powerful on the street; they were going to kill the prosecutor, I wanted to warn him," while the suspects also accused Mustafa Kemal Zengin.

A gang that caused the deaths of newborn babies by unjustly keeping them in intensive care for days in order to defraud SGK has been on the agenda of Turkey for days. New information about the newborn gang continues to emerge. Following the arrest of 22 out of 47 suspects, including doctors, nurses, and 112 Emergency Service workers, the prosecutor who uncovered the gang, Yavuz Engin, was threatened in his office. It was revealed that the reason for this threat was related to the release of nurse Tuğçe Toptemel, who was responsible for the intensive care unit at the now-closed Birinci Hospital. Mustafa Kemal Zengin, who introduced himself as a former Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, along with his lawyer Aylin Arslantatar, threatened the prosecutor with death in his office. Additionally, it was stated that Zengin told the prosecutor, "These people are the ones who attempted to assassinate the Pope," and after being arrested, he claimed, "They are very powerful on the street; they would have killed the prosecutor; I wanted to warn him." It was also revealed that suspects Baki Yavuz and Yavuz Çelik accused Mustafa Kemal Zengin.

"HE SAID MY STEPDAUGHTER WOULD BE RELEASED"

According to a report in HaberTürk, Yavuz Çelik stated in his testimony that Tuğçe Toptemel, whom he met with Mustafa Kemal Zengin for her release, is his stepdaughter, saying, "We educated Tuğçe together with her mother; she became a nurse. Tuğçe started working as a nurse in the pediatric intensive care unit at Özel Birinci Hospital in Beylikdüzü district about two years before her arrest. About 2-3 months ago, I can't remember the exact date, she was detained and arrested during operations related to health institutions, the details of which I do not know. Later, when we met with Mustafa Kemal Zengin, I mentioned my daughter's detention. He told me, 'How many years have we known each other? I want to help; just give me Tuğçe's information and file number.' So I did. From his conversations, I thought he would investigate through his lawyer network. He said, 'I will let you know.' About 10-15 days after this meeting, Mustafa Kemal Zengin came to the parking lot, and we sat down. He told us that he was researching our daughter Tuğçe's case, that her additional statement would be taken soon, and that she could be released. However, he did not say from whom or how he obtained this information. I then called Tuğçe's lawyer and boyfriend, Mustafa Gür, and explained the situation to him. He also said he couldn't make sense of this because she needed to be a witness to give an additional statement, that Tuğçe was the most innocent person in this case, and that there was no situation that would require an additional statement. He got into his car and left the parking lot."

"I DO NOT ACCEPT THE ALLEGATIONS"

"Mustafa Kemal Zengin had told us that he received information about the case through lawyers. However, we learned from news reports that he and my brother Baki Çelik used our names to describe the prosecutor handling the case as if he were a leader of a criminal organization, a crime machine, and even a suspect in unsolved crimes in Turkey. I cannot understand how things have come to this point. I do not accept the allegations. We love our homeland and our nation; we do not even disrespect state officials, let alone threaten them. I am a complainant and a plaintiff against the person named Mustafa Kemal Zengin, who brought these events to this point and made accusations against us." he stated.

"I AM NOT A MEMBER OF ANY POLITICAL PARTY"

Baki Çelik stated in his testimony, "About 2.5 months ago, Mustafa Kemal Zengin told my brother Yavuz Çelik and me that he had retired judges and prosecutors as acquaintances, that he was practicing law, that his business was going well, and that he could give the case of Tuğçe Toptemel, who was in custody at the police, to them. However, I did not accept this offer, as Tuğçe Toptemel's boyfriend is a lawyer and is following the case himself. I do not know who the prosecutor is; we never talked about Mustafa Kemal Zengin and the prosecutor. I have never been to the Büyükçekmece Courthouse. I do not know why Mustafa Kemal Zengin used my name in the prosecutor's office or why he told such a lie. I know very well that a prosecutor's office cannot be threatened, and no detainee can be released through threats. The statements made by Mustafa Kemal Zengin regarding political party officials using my name are completely unfounded; I have no membership in any political party." he said.
