After the operation carried out against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), the bandwidth limitation that was implemented to prevent provocations and had been in effect for a while has come to an end. Internet users can now access social media platforms.

The new decision regarding the internet bandwidth throttling application initiated during the detentions related to the city reconciliation and corruption investigations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), where IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu was also detained.

The bandwidth throttling, which caused serious problems in accessing popular social media platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp across Turkey, has been lifted. Thus, users will no longer face loading issues when accessing these platforms, especially through desktop and mobile devices.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Investigations initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu and 99 suspects for crimes including "being a leader of a criminal organization," "being a member of a criminal organization," "bribery," "qualified fraud," "illegally obtaining personal data," and "interfering with a tender," are ongoing. Additionally, investigations against İmamoğlu, IMM Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, and Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, among 7 suspects, for the crime of "aiding the PKK/KCK terrorist organization" are also continuing.

In the operation carried out following the detention orders, 87 suspects, including IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu, IMM Advisor Murat Ongun, Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık, Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, and singer Ercan Saatçi, were captured and brought to the Vatan Campus of the Istanbul Police Department for their statements.
