A citizen in Antalya caused a fire with mobile phone batteries that he had stored on his balcony from his previous workplace.
The fire occurred around 7:00 PM in an apartment on the second floor of a three-story building located on 3920th Street in the Karşıyaka neighborhood of the Kepez district. According to the information obtained, passing citizens noticed smoke coming from the apartment's balcony and reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. At the same time, a person passing by rang the doorbells of the apartment one by one to warn the residents. As the fire quickly grew, flames engulfed the balcony and spread into the house.
NEIGHBORS WATCHED WITH ANXIOUS EYES
Residents of the apartment, who experienced great panic, rushed out of their homes, while neighborhood residents who heard the explosion sounds from the balcony poured into the street in fear. Firefighters from the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, who arrived at the scene shortly after, intervened in the flames, while neighborhood residents watched the teams' efforts with anxious eyes. After approximately 1.5 hours of work, the fire was extinguished. The apartment suffered significant damage in the fire. An elderly woman who was at home during the fire and came outside after being informed by her neighbors was seen to be very frightened.
FLAMES HAD ENGULFED THE BALCONY
It was claimed that the fire originated from mobile phone batteries that the resident, who previously dealt with the sale of mobile phone materials, had left on the balcony after closing his business. A resident of the apartment, who stated that he learned about the fire through a phone call while he was out shopping, said, "It started around 7 PM; I had left home to go shopping. My child called me from home and said, 'Dad, the building is on fire.' I ran back, and the balcony was completely engulfed in flames. It was burning very badly. The flames had completely surrounded the balcony."
"WE EVACUATED THE BUILDING URGENTLY"
A resident of the apartment stated that most of the residents were at home during the fire, saying, "Most of the residents were at home. We urgently evacuated the entire building; I also turned off the main switch immediately to prevent further spread. The materials on the balcony caught fire, and the flames came from there. What caused it depends on the details that the fire department will provide."
Meanwhile, after the firefighters' work, it was seen that there were many mobile phone batteries among the materials thrown down from the balcony.
