Heavy rains affecting India's capital New Delhi have paralyzed transportation at the country's busiest airport. Water accumulated on the access roads and front sections of Terminals 2 and 3 of Gandhi International Airport, while more than 400 flights were delayed. Due to the adverse weather conditions, 9 planes were diverted to other airports. TERMINAL ENTRANCES FLOODED
Heavy rain intensified in New Delhi on Friday afternoon. Following the rainfall, water accumulated on the access roads and front areas providing entry to Terminals 2 and 3 of Gandhi International Airport. Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL), which operates the airport, stated that "heavy rainfall" was observed in the afternoon, resulting in water accumulation on the approach road and front areas.
MORE THAN 400 FLIGHTS DELAYED
The rainfall not only caused flooding around the airport but also led to major disruptions in the flight schedule. According to data from the flight tracking website Flightradar24, more than 400 flights were delayed at Delhi Airport on Friday. Gandhi International Airport is India's busiest airport and hosts more than 1,300 flights daily. Therefore, the disruption affected a large number of passengers.
