The Serik Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched a suo moto investigation under Article 216 of the Turkish Penal Code regarding individuals who secretly filmed and insulted women wearing headscarves in Belek, Antalya. It has been revealed that the suspects, whose identities have been determined, fled abroad on August 14, just before distributing the scandalous footage, and made the posts from there.
Judicial authorities have taken action regarding individuals who secretly filmed women wearing headscarves on the public beach in Antalya's Belek district and made insulting and hateful remarks. While the Serik Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an ex officio investigation into the incident, it was determined that the suspects shared the footage on August 14 after leaving the country.
FOOTAGE CAUSED PUBLIC OUTRAGE
The insulting remarks made by two individuals, who secretly recorded citizens with their mobile phone cameras on the public beach in Belek, specifically targeting the clothing choices of women wearing headscarves, caused great public outrage on social media. As the footage spread rapidly and reactions grew, judicial authorities stepped in.
EX OFFICIO INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED UNDER TURKISH PENAL CODE ARTICLE 216
The Serik Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an ex officio judicial process without delay regarding the footage that was met with public backlash. It was reported that the investigation is being conducted within the scope of the crime of "Inciting the public to hatred and hostility or belittling" under Article 216 of the Turkish Penal Code.
IDENTITIES DETERMINED: THEY SHARED THE FOOTAGE FROM ABROAD
As a result of meticulous examinations carried out by police teams, it was determined that the person who shared the scandalous footage on social media was Mustafa B., and the person who recorded the video and made hateful statements was Emre B.
In the follow-up conducted by security forces, it was established that the suspects had left the country on August 14, just before distributing the scandalous video, and made the sharing from abroad where they were located. It was learned that judicial and law enforcement efforts to capture the suspects, who were determined to have fled abroad, continue unabated.
