The cast of HBO's highly anticipated "Harry Potter" series has been announced. Among the actors portraying beloved characters, from Albus Dumbledore to Severus Snape, and from Minerva McGonagall to Rubeus Hagrid, are some award-winning names. The series, which is being brought to life as a faithful adaptation of the Harry Potter books, will be available exclusively to viewers on the digital streaming platform Max.
The film series adapted from the Harry Potter books, written by J.K. Rowling and which became a worldwide phenomenon, was released in eight films between 2001 and 2011. During this time, the magical universe that gained millions of fans is now preparing to be brought to the screen with a brand new project.
CAST ANNOUNCED In the series, award-winning actor, poet, writer, and musician John Arthur Lithgow will play "Albus Dumbledore," award-winning English actress Janet McTeer will portray "Minerva McGonagall," English actor Paapa Essiedu will take on the role of "Severus Snape," and actor, comedian, and screenwriter Nick Frost will appear as "Rubeus Hagrid." Guest stars include Luke Thallon as "Quirinus Quirrell" and five-time BAFTA award winner Paul Whitehouse as "Argus Filch." The series will be a faithful adaptation of the Harry Potter book series, bringing to life the beloved characters and the fantastic events that Harry Potter fans have cherished for 25 years.
The series will be exclusively available on the digital streaming platform Max, including new countries such as Turkey, England, Germany, and Italy where it will begin airing. The series, written by Francesca Gardiner and produced by her, will have multiple episodes executive produced and directed by Mark Mylod, Bronte Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television for HBO. The production is being carried out by JK Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts from Bronte Film and TV, along with David Heyman from Heyday Films.
