The Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department has completed the "incident scene report" regarding the fire that broke out between the Çınar and Mazıdağı districts of Mardin. The report states that "it is believed that the fire started when sparks from an electrical pole fell onto the crops." INTERVENTION STARTED 16 MINUTES AFTER THE REPORTThe municipality has formed a Damage Assessment Commission to investigate the cause of the fire, which claimed the lives of 15 people, and to assess the damage. The commission has documented its findings in a report. According to the report, a call was made to the fire department at 22:09 on Thursday, June 20, 2024. The first vehicle left the Çınar Fire Brigade at 22:10. The fire truck arrived at the scene 16 minutes after the call, at 22:25, and started the intervention. A total of 28 vehicles and 108 personnel, including the Yenişehir, Kayapınar, and Bağlar fire groups of the Fire Department, the Parks and Gardens Department, and the Environmental Protection and Control Department, were dispatched to the fire area with 280 tons of water. SPARKS FROM THE ELECTRICAL POLE FELL ON THE CROPSThe Damage Assessment Commission concluded that the fire started when sparks from an electrical pole fell onto the crops after conducting a comprehensive examination in the Köksalan neighborhood. According to the report, in the Köksalan neighborhood, 302 goats and 622 sheep were killed, 1,627 hectares of cultivated land, 10 hectares of pistachio seedlings, 2 tractors, 19 irrigation facilities, 4 electrical transformers, 2 bulldozers, 35 solar panels, 1 hoe machine, 1 sprayer, 2 fertilizer tanks, 10 pomegranate trees, and 1 fertilizer distributor were damaged. In the Bağacık neighborhood, 2 irrigation facilities and 15 hectares of almond seedlings were burned, and in the Yazçiçeği neighborhood, 42 sets of irrigation systems were destroyed. The incident scene report will also be shared with the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
