The Central Bank has raised its inflation forecast for the end of 2025 from 21% to 24%. Although the Central Bank Governor Karahan stated that this revision does not signal any easing, this upward adjustment has increased citizens' expectations for salary increases. The Minister of Labor and Social Services, Vedat Işıkhan, also mentioned, "If there is no decrease in inflation, a mid-year raise may be on the agenda in July."

The Central Bank announced the first inflation figure of the year. In its inflation report, the Central Bank revised its year-end inflation forecast upwards.

"THE TARGET WAS NOT REALISTIC"

Economist Murat Kubilay, who made evaluations on the subject during the program he attended, said, "I was also surprised by the early update of the inflation target. The target was not realistic. Let's go back to 2024. The target was 33, it became 36, then 38, and we closed at 44. This time it was pulled down to 24. It is delayed but appropriate," he said.

"THERE IS STICKY INFLATION IN TURKEY"

Kubilay continued his remarks by stating, "It has been seen that fighting inflation is not that easy," and added, "There is sticky inflation in Turkey. Now, 20% of Turkey's inflation has an opening, and this has settled now."

CITIZENS' EXPECTATIONS FOR SALARY INCREASES HAVE RISEN

After the Central Bank's upward revision of the year-end inflation target, citizens' expectations for salary increases have also risen.

THE WORDS OF MINISTER IŞIKHAN CAME TO MIND

Minister of Labor and Social Services Vedat Işıkhan, in a statement he made a few months ago regarding the discussions on an interim wage increase for the minimum wage, said, "We will see that the decline in inflation has started. However, if we face another situation, it may come up in July."
