A new transfer claim that has stirred up political circles has come to the forefront. It has been alleged that Vahap Akay, the Mayor of Çerkezköy district in Tekirdağ, will join the AK Party along with 15 municipal council members. If this claim, which concerns Çerkezköy with a population of approximately 240,000, comes true, it is expected that the political balance in the municipal council will also change.
The claim that another mayor would join the AK Party stirred up Ankara's political circles. Sinan Burhan, the President of the Turkish Press Federation, alleged that Çerkezköy Mayor Vahap Akay would switch to the AK Party.

Following the participation of 3 deputies and 7 mayors in the AK Party's 25th-anniversary celebrations held on August 14, claims emerged that new names would also join the AK Party ranks. According to information conveyed from Ankara's political circles by Sinan Burhan, the President of the Turkish Press Federation, Çerkezköy Mayor Vahap Akay, who resigned from the CHP and currently continues his duty as an independent, is expected to join the AK Party soon.

The most striking detail in the political grapevine was the claim that the possible participation would not be limited to Vahap Akay alone.
Sinan Burhan made the following statements on the matter:

A DISTRICT LARGER THAN 30 PROVINCES
The possible mass transfer is also expected to directly impact the political balances in Çerkezköy. The simultaneous party switch of 15 municipal council members along with the mayor could alter the current arithmetic and decision-making processes in the Çerkezköy Municipal Council. With approximately 240,000 residents, Çerkezköy is among Tekirdağ's major industrial centers. Furthermore, the district's population exceeds that of 30 provinces in Turkey.
