Mustafa Bozbey, the Mayor of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, was detained at dawn by the Organized Crime Fighting Branch teams along with his wife and daughter. It was learned that Bozbey was taken into custody in connection with a case involving Turgay Erdem, the Mayor of Nilüfer, who is currently in custody. Bozbey faces charges such as "establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime, bribery, laundering assets derived from crime, and causing environmental pollution."
Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey, along with his wife Seden Bozbey and daughter Side Bozbey Gürer, among 55 suspects, were detained in a simultaneous operation conducted as part of an investigation into allegations of bribery and organized crime.
ORGANIZED BRANCH TEAMS SPRING INTO ACTION As part of the investigation conducted by the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a large-scale operation was carried out in a total of 5 provinces, centered in Bursa. The teams of the Smuggling and Organized Crime Department pressed the button on the morning of March 31, 2026. In the operations, 55 suspects, including Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey, were captured and detained.
55 RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES, 23 BUSINESSES, 1 FOUNDATION SEIZED Searches were conducted at 51 residential properties, 23 companies and businesses, and 1 foundation belonging to the suspects. Additionally, vehicles used by the suspects were also seized. It was learned that efforts to capture 4 fugitives are ongoing.
ALLEGATIONS OF BRIBERY AND ILLEGAL INCREASE IN FLOOR AREA RATIO The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the investigation centered on zoning practices in the Nilüfer district. According to the statement, former Nilüfer Mayors Mustafa Bozbey and Turgay Erdem, along with some municipal employees, illegally increased the floor area ratio in construction projects in exchange for bribes. Authorities determined that both the suspects and project owners gained financial benefits through this method.
